  1.                      CALIBRATION OF THE KERATOMETER

  3. Measuring the Calibration Balls
  4.  
  5. Once the unit is mounted on the 
  6. headrest, swing the instrument 
  7. side-to-side to locate the ball and 
  8. adjust the vertical height so that the 
  9. crosshair is in the center of the center 
  10. ring mire.  Focus the instrument such 
  11. that the mires are in sharp focus.  Next 
  12. rotate the drums until the mires are 
  13. properly overlapped (plus sign over 
  14. the plus sign and minus over the minus).  
  15. The above procedure is just as you would 
  16. do on the eye.   There should not be any toricity.

  18. Read the dioptric (or millimeter) values from the drums.  Repeat the above procedure for the other two balls if you are using the three ball set.  They should read the same value as indicatedon the calibration balls.  If the readings are the same your instrument is in proper calibration.
